Like any tool or machine, rotavators have limits to their capabilities. So before buying or renting a rotavator, you should examine the ground you are going to work on. Check out the size of the total area. Work out how deep you need to go and from there and you should get an idea of the size of the machine you'll need for the job. It may be you only need a small rotavator, or you may need a 10ft wide rotavator for the back of a tractor.
Before attacking the job with your choice of rotavator, you need to remove any large rocks and rubble from the ground as it can severely damage the rotavators blades, and the rotavator itself, if you strike any large bits of debris. Once this is done, you should dig the ground over, especially if it is particularly hard and arable ground. If you're working on a large scale, you will find farmers ploughing their fields before rotavating.
