My truck recently showed her age.
With 150 k on the pedometer, an mismatched replacement bed with rust on the suicide door, she looks sad.
Although she is a good truck, she is 14 years old and a full-time student (
More money going out than going in.
I can\'t afford the real paint job at all.
What I have, however, is a free week and $150.
So the only logical answer is:Pictina.
With minimal material, a little free time and some creative thinking, you can give a Sun to any car
Retro feel.
** I didn\'t get the full effect I wanted, but I didn\'t have time until the drawing contest.
I will throw some new photos when the full body is finished!
* Unlike traditional paint work, all you need to do here is wear and polish the existing paint to give something to the new layer.
Especially the transparent coating, it seems that any paint placed on it will fall off.
Since pretty doesn\'t count here, I went to the truck with random track Sander and some rough 50 sandpaper I kicked in the store.
In the photo you will see bare metal in several places where I do other body work --
You don\'t need to grind it off so far. . .
In fact, it gets better when you don\'t.
Before painting, quickly browse the whole body with a better sandpaper (I used 180)
Say everything out there.
After finishing the sanding, rinse the whole truck with solvent, such as mineral spirits/paint thinners, to remove any oil before painting.
My uncle is a car repairman. he likes to repair cars.
I helped him recover his latest growth at Pontiac or Volkswagen over the weekend.
If he sees my advice. . .
Let\'s assume it won\'t end smoothly.
At the same time, however, you cannot argue with the result (
Or with a minimum budget! ).
So, in the first step, continue to cover up the truck parts you don\'t want to paint with tape (
Bumper, window, etc)
Paint the whole thing black.
It will cost more, but car paint looks better than other paint types.
This chapter scared all of you Autobots.
Put your sprayer away.
You\'re applying this dress with a brush. Yes. A paint brush.
I know it doesn\'t look right, but trust me.
What you are looking for here is a thick paint with texture.
Brush is a reliable way to achieve this.
The next step is to put a layer of red-
Oxide color paint on base coating.
Most old cars are red.
Oxide primer, that\'s what we\'re going to copy here.
In order to make this color, I used a combination of orange and black for the Huger (
4 parts orange to 1 part Black).
It doesn\'t matter, especially on this level, but it\'s a good idea to mix enough to cover the whole car before you start painting.
Even if you measure the Cup with paint (
What you should use)
, There will be some changes between batches.
I mixed a quart of color at a time and kept it in a sealed container until I was ready to use it.
This is not important for this layer as we will paint more on it, but keep this in mind in the final coating.
It was very dusty because I lived on the gravel road.
I flush my truck with solvent every time before painting.
Practical application Red-
Oxide layer, support yourself again, you need a roller.
I know, I know.
But what we want is a thick layer of texture.
Spray won\'t cut here.
If you start to panic because it looks like it\'s ruining your truck, rest assured-
After this step it will start to look better.
Here we will apply our top color layers-
I\'m with a teal for this truck-green color.
Let this color, I use silver (5 parts), blue (1 part)and yellow (1 part).
My original plan was to use these little bargains.
Sprayer in hardware store.
This is a great system to air anything, easy to clean and available in almost any store.
Besides, it turns out that people around me.
So, while the $4 system is very cheap, I wait around for its delivery when I pay for shipping and handling fees. . . .
It\'s just not in the card.
So, I recommend using the preval brand spray gun if I can, but if not, I find a normal manual spray bottle working fine.
You have to use thin auto paint in order to work.
Regardless of the spray method, keep the sprayer at a set distance from the truck for the best results (
Usually around 8)
, Avoid drops, apply evenly.
Type out your white paint!
Finally, this step will add a lot of characters to your painting work.
Apply a thin layer of white paint to the entire truck body.
The key here is a light coat.
Most white layers will be polished off, but it will hang at any low point to create an old look.
Now is the time to guide your inner Daniel.
Scatter, perfect your wax-on/wax-off technique.
You need a sand block with 320 sandpaper and a spray bottle full of water and a little soap.
In order to simulate the wear and tear of nearly 40 years, we have to wet the truck.
A small plan will go a long way here;
Think about which parts of the truck will get the most direct sunshine.
Roof, Hood, Fender.
These are your favorite places.
The amount you take off depends on how bad you want the paint work to look.
So, choose a place to work, spray it down and start polishing!
Note: If you have any plastic on your truck (
Mine around the wheel well)
, The paint will be attached in different ways, and it is easier to be cleaned up by sand.
Consider applying a thicker paint layer on it and be more careful when sanding.
There are several options here.
You can re-draw all the layers of the place where you fell (black, red-
Oxidation, Cyan, White)and then re-sand (
Recommended method)
, Or you can color it with your hands and then apply a sponge on your distressed layer.
Once you make the truck look like you want it, you\'ll want to stay that way!
A layer of transparent coating is the best way to protect your new paint work.
As always, make sure the truck is clean before applying and aim at the paint layers that are evenly applied.
