Liquid Cleaner
All VPI machines come with special liquid to help polish up your old records, delicately applying the valuable substance throughout the record to remove any dirt and dust from the LP. The earlier model of the VPI machine did not have a compartment for the gel, which had to be applied by hand, but later types allowed for an automatic application process. The liquid can be seen online and sells for normally less than 30 bucks for a VPI record cleaner.
Vacuum
All VPI cleaners use some type of vacuum to suck the dust and dirt from the vinyl records, but of course, some products can remove more grime from an LP with a more powerful vacuum, while others are left with cheaper versions. VPI machines with lower-end vacuums usually leave behind more dust and grime, while products with more powerful suction can clean an LP in one try. Before buying a VPI machine, it's important to keep in mind the reviews on the vacuum to determine how well it can remove the dirt and grime caught in between the grooves of the record.
Brush
With the combination of the brush, liquid and vacuum, a VPI machine can remove all the dust and grime found in between each of the little grooves where things can get trapped. It is important that you take good care of the brush on the VPI device, for if you do not, you could be looking at bad cleaning of your favorite The Beatles vinyl albums.
