These machines are used to operate in difficult terrains and rough areas. Sometime they have to work through waterways, sometimes places where a human being should not even go. This causes immense wear and tear of the equipment. Hence, it is extremely important to take good care of it. Although some aspects of the maintenance schedule may not be easy to do, they are very important for long lasting life of the machine.

Following are some points to remember while chalking out a maintenance schedule.

Started with the electrical part of the brushcutter, at all times before starting to use the machine for daily operation check all electrical wires and cables are connected properly. Electric ignition is working properly. Ensure all wires that are connected to the battery are clean and secured tightly.

Monitor the electrolyte level of the battery on regular basis. The grease on the battery terminals should be always checked to prevent it from corroding. Check if the clamps on the battery are firmly fixed. Make sure that the positive and negative battery cable is not discharged. Ensure that the engine deck and hood are placed firmly.

Checking air filter is an important aspect of maintaining the brushcutter. This will prevent the tool from overheating. The air filter can be checked on weekly basis to see if there are any particles stuck in the vents. Check the outer as well as the inner air filter. Clean it with warm water and detergent. Brush out particles if required and dry the element before fixing it back.

Usually all professional brushcutter models come fitted with a pre cleaner attached on to the inner filter. Check manual for your model. Remove it and check it is clean and clear of any particles and oil. If you find the filter element is damaged replace it immediately. If there is excess oil, drain it out and replace back on inner filter only once the inner filter is also cleaned. While you replace the filter element, ensure that the wing nut is fixed properly before finishing the cleaning task.

During winters, keep the battery in warm but not extremely hot areas. Do not keep it out in freezing climate. If you do not use the equipment more than once month use a gas stabiliser to keep it in good condition. Check the fuel level and quality, as fuel tends to deteriorate and spoil if kept unused for longer periods. Always close the fuel valve tightly when not in use. Remove any grass, weeds and wet particles from the blades. Also, remove any dregs and dirt around the muffler area of the engine after use and before storing it.

If you encounter any problems with the brushcutter engine, do not try to fix it on your own. Take it to the dealer or expert to get it rectified.
