Mica —
A pigment that brings beautiful rainbow-colored gloss to highlighter, eyeshadow and nail polish --
It is mainly where the labor law has not been implemented.
Makeup is a very important part of my daily life.
This is the bond between me and my friends and sisters.
That\'s part of what I got.
My favorite routine.
This is a form of self.
I feel very proud expression.
For me and most of my friends
No free makeup. brainer.
I don\'t want the color and paint on my face to be tested on animals first.
I don\'t want to be responsible for the suffering of animals.
Make-up should be funnot cruel.
So, try my best to educate myself and let myself know what the company I purchased is doing.
What are their policies on animal testing? What loopholes do they use to bypass animal testing laws. What information can be provided to the public between my sister and I, we have accumulated quite a bit of knowledge so that our makeup habits are in line with our beliefs.
One thing happened last year.
I found \"cruel-
The \"free I use\" product may not be free for children.
That\'s because of a shiny paint called cloud powder.
The one that gives us all the highlighter, eye shadow and nail polish, very rainbow-colored gloss --
It is mainly mined under unregulated, unsafe conditions that do not enforce the labor law. I feel betrayed.
I \'ve always thought I was making a good choice, and actually I could have driven an industry that hurt or even killed child labor.
According to the research center for multinational corporations, mica in the world comes from Jharkhand and Bihar in India.
In these two states, 22,000 children work in the yunmu mine.
Some of them are only four or five years old.
In the 2016 incident, a Reuters survey showed that seven children were killed in the mine in India in just two months.
Their deaths have been quietly covered up so that the industry can continue to benefit from child labor.
World Vision Canada recently conducted research on 60 companies that imported cloud powder.
Shipping beauty products to Canada.
Of these companies, only companies provide detailed evidence of their commitment to prevent child labor in the supply chain.
According to the report, Canadian cosmetics imports almost doubled in five years, which is a huge problem.
As consumers, our interest in beauty products is growing.
World Vision reports that Canadians buy beauty products monthly or more often.
We are a lucrative market for these brands, most of which offer little information, so our consumers can make responsible decisions about our glowing cosmetics.
Two of the children affected by the mica industry are six. year-
Old Roshni and her brother Kamal (four).
Their names have been changed, but the two little guys are very real faces of the mica industry.
My colleague Sam spoke with Indian children and their parents to investigate the impact of the mica industry on families like them.
Their father, Karan, told Sam that even his children had to attend because of his father\'s low salary.
Their two 8-year-old and 10-year-old brothers and sisters live under the care of their grandmother 30 kilometers away.
A family is separated and works in dirty, dangerous and degrading conditions
All for a spark.
Rajendar, a tour guide who showed Sam the yunmu mine where Karan works, said the company prefers this type of labor rather than machines.
\"If mica is collected with a machine, it breaks down into finer pieces, reducing its value in the market,\" Rajendar said . \".
The mine is illegal, which means the standard of safe Labor (
Including the prohibition of child labor)
Not enforced here.
Mines can collapse without any warning, just like the death of child miners investigated by Reuters on 2016.
But for Karan and his family, the money they make in the mine is what they need to survive.
He wants other jobs.
Like his father and grandfather, he returned to the mine.
I don\'t want the product on my face to be cruel.
For animals or children like Roshni and Kamal.
That\'s why I signed this petition asking the government of Canada to make legislation for Canadian companies
Beautiful and other
They will have to report how they can prevent child labor in the supply chain.
I will also write to some of my favorite brands to find out what they are doing to prevent the cloud powder that kids might be mining on my face.
I know what my efforts are, it\'s not a lot of demands
The money earned is money.
Beauty should not be cruel.
Let\'s start the conversation to make sure it\'s not.
